Trona Valley Federal Credit Union Designed to be the world headquarters for a rapidly expanding credit union, the development is a statement for this emergent financial institution. After an exhaustive search, a 10-acre highly visible site adjacent to the freeway and fronting a major arterial street was selected. The undulating terrain, punctuated by dramatic rock outcroppings, boulders, and native sage, immediately captivated the design team, who embraced the site's unique character. Every aspect of the site circulation was meticulously planned to ensure a harmonious balance of accessibility and the preservation of the stunning natural landscape. The building is carefully integrated into the site, nestled within a flatter area designated for parking and development. Its strategic placement between prominent rock formations maximizes panoramic views. The more rugged part of the site is preserved for its natural features and breathtaking vistas. The interior layout is separated by the three main elements of the program - branch credit union, data center, and headquarters wings – which are unified by a lobby that acts as a central hub. Flooded with natural light, visitors are greeted at this entry with a story-and-a-half-high space crowned with clearstory windows and by a grand fireplace, crafted from regionally harvested stone. The exterior facade is clad in smooth metal panels and openings are glazed with reflective glass to mirror the exterior site and frame views of the site with thin rectangular sunshades. Parapets and roof edges feature warm, welcoming extended eyebrows that are clad with wood on the underside – which provides for protection from the elements – and that extend into the ceilings of the interior main circulation areas to introduce the "mountain modern" motif.
